Remembering Keith…

IMG_0745

Today is a hard day.  Exactly one year ago, my brother took his own life.  He was 33 years old and seemed to have the world at his fingertips.  He had a great job as a military contractor, a girlfriend whom he had just introduced us to, and a loving family.

Keith was such a fun person.  He was often the life of the party and had a joyous, infectious way about him.  If you were his friend, he would do anything for you. He would definitely “have your back” if he trusted and respected you.

He also had some rough times and we know now that those rough times probably were the result of some kind of depression.  How tragic  that he couldn’t ask for help and didn’t feel that life was worth living.  We just hope that he has finally found the peace that he longed for, and that he is up there looking down on us.  I miss him and what he brought to our family terribly. Rest peacefully brother-I will see you again someday.

  1. I found your blog by way of TOS Homeschool Crew. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my older brother about 6 years ago to an oxycontin overdose. It's hard to lose loved ones, but especially when it's by their own hand.

  3. Fellow New Crew Member - My sister took her life 4 years ago - on my son's birthday. No words. Only those who have gone through it can maybe fathom the string of emotions and feelings and thoughts that come after. She was beautiful, talented, super mom, super friend, super wife, amazing person. I big sigh for you today, and a prayer, as you walk though each year. :) Love to you.

  4. Just stopping by from the Crew Forum. Wow, what an incredibly difficult time this must be for you. I didn't lose a brother to suicide, but did lose a close friend. The questions that are left are innumerable. I can't begin to pretend to know how you feel, but my heart goes out to you. I'm praying for your family today. Blessings!:)

  11. It's really hard to lose the one you love, especially those that took their own lives. My sister's a therapist and took time one day to explain to me what suicide is for those that are left behind to deal with this. I can't even fathom how this is like.

May the good Lord comfort you and your family at this time.

  15. Amy, thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment on my "in memory of my brother" post. It is so hard as a sister wondering what you might have been able to do differently and trying to do the right thing for the parents who will never be able to move on from this type of loss. It changes everything... and although I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it's nice to know there are others who do truly understand the degree of the loss.

Thank you again for your encouraging words.
